None – Let’s get busy so we’ll have some for next year! Kiwanis Thoughts

Until you make peace with who you are, you’ll never be content with what you have.

Prayer Requests

Please remember Johnny Mitchell & his family in your thoughts and prayers as their daughter, Ashley, undergoes treatment at the National Cancer Institute in Maryland.

WELCOME Welcome for the last time as a guest – Sarah Fuller. Sarah came to meeting with application in hand – thank you to Robin Barber for sponsoring her. Why don’t you bring a guest/prospective member this week? All you have is excuses and none of them are good.

PROGRAMS

Barry Wall has speakers for December & John Barber is the greeter.

UP COMING EVENTS:

Spirit of Christmas Food Drive: Can you believe it is almost that time again

already? The Food Drive “officially” begins November 19th and runs through

December 21st – we’ll deliver food with our Key Club on Saturday, December 22nd. Please help promote it any way that you can – this is being done with the help and support of Brookshires/Super One Foods. Bob would like to do even better than we did last year – plans are in place to have competition among the schools with the winners getting a pizza/bowling party from Western Lanes.

RECAP: Cottonland Christmas Parade & Fireworks:

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Jerry Roark for once again pulling off a tremendous Christmas Parade & Fireworks! We don’t know what we’d do without him. Thanks as well to everyone that showed up to help unload fireworks Saturday morning: John Obed, Jerry Roark, King Scott, Jeremy Harrell, D.J. Woolever, and Kenny Galyean. Then thanks to all those that helped organize the parade – Sarah Fuller and her husband Brian were there early and stayed late – how wonderful to have a new member get busy so fast! Also helping out were: Jerry & Darla Roark, Kenny Galyean, King Scott, Doug Caldwell, Robin & John Barber, Jeremy Harrell, Bob Wilson, Debbie Poore, and Karen Hayward.

If you could have seen the smiling faces of the children watching (and participating) in the parade and enjoying the fireworks – you’d know that all these efforts were worthwhile.

Don’t Forget!

We are meeting at First Place located at 100 Arkansas Road in West Monroe – across from the golf course. We will be there at least

temporarily, until the repairs at the West Monroe Convention Center are complete to the kitchen and the two outside meeting rooms. You’ll be notified when we are headed back “home.”

Key Club Korner West Monroe H.S.

Thank you to Bob Wilson for attending the Key Club’s most recent meeting. Most of it centered on the Christmas Parade, decorating the trailer, etc. Also discussed was the food drive, a Christmas Party – thanks again to Bob Wilson for agreeing to host this awesome group of youngsters at Western Lanes on December 13th, singing Christmas Carols at the Landmark Nursing Home, and possibly ringing bells for the Salvation Army.

We had a tremendous turnout from the Key Club in the Christmas Parade – about twenty! Thanks to Jeremy Harrell for the use of his trailer and for pulling it during the parade.

How We Can Help?! Why don’t we join the Key Club in going to the Landmark Nursing Home after the Food Drive on Saturday, December 22nd? We wouldn’t have to have everyone – but six to ten would be super. Some of us can sing and those that can’t will be drowned out by the Key Club! Maybe someone would like to step forward and volunteer to coordinate gather gift bags/baskets for the residents? This would be a terrific way to help the Key Club with one of their projects – please see your Club President, Bob Wilson if you are willing to accept this challenge.

Kiwanis Education

The Second Object of Kiwanis International is \"To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.\"

2002 District Convention

We need Door Prizes – at least 15 of them that are representative of

Northeast Louisiana. These will be used at the Mid-Winter Conference in Baton Rouge on February 15-17, 2002 to help promote attendance at the District Convention. I know you all can help! Please contact Robin Barber at 396-7381 or bring your contribution to her at a meeting.

West Monroe Junior High

Builders Club

The Builders Club had a successful campaign with the Bucks for Firetrucks for Governor Foster. So far

they have raised about $80. They are also ringing bells on the 12th at Big Lots, Super One, and Brookshires from 4 – 6 p.m. after their meeting and a brief Christmas Party. Let’s all try to show up and help with the Bell Ringing! This would be a terrific way to interact with our Builders Club and help with one of their projects.

They are also planning on helping deliver food on the 22nd.

WM Boys & Girls Club Steak n’ Stake Dinner

The dinner is sponsored by Outback Steakhouse and is scheduled for 6 pm, Tuesday, December 11th at the Ouachita Grand Plaza

Auditorium in Monroe. Your Kiwanis Club is one of the sponsors and as such, we have a table available – please see John Barber for tickets. Feel free to use them for yourself, friends, family, or business associates.

Highland Elementary

K – Kids Club

The K Kids ended their food drive at the

school. They collected 1,114 cans of food. WOW!!!!! The two 5th grade classes had won. The K Kids had about 25 kids for their Christmas parade entry.

Membership Growth

The Kiwanis Growth Department can provide your club with a Dun & Bradstreet listing of businesses and key personnel in your area to assist you in member recruitment and even soliciting guest speakers. Just e-mail jwhalen@kiwanis.org and provide the postal code or codes for the appropriate area.

A satisfied Kiwanian recently forwarded this thank you to the Growth

Department: \"You sent me this list last winter, and it turned out to be very useful. It is difficult to say how many members actually came off the list, but just having it led members to think of other folks, and it snowballed. As a result of the drive, we got several new members, some very good, but it was the list that precipitated and encouraged us. I'd recommend to others they do it, and to our club that in another year we do it all over again. Thank you.\"

Kiwanis scores with public service

announcements in wide array of magazines.

A full-page Kiwanis International public service announcement (PSA) has begun showing up in some of the leading consumer magazines in the US. Over the past month, the PSA has been published in the June 2001 international issue of National Geographic, the August 13, 2001 issue of Fortune, the September 2001 issue of Mutual Funds, and the September 10, 2001 issue of Sports Illustrated. The PSAs have appeared in both color and black and white, and carry the “Serving the

Children of the World” tagline. The copy, however, is tied to the phrase, “Helping a child is no small thing.”

The PSA has been supplied electronically to the publishers of 28 leading consumer magazines. It can be printed any time space allows. If you see it in your market, please let us know at Kiwanis International.

A color version of the PSA can be viewed at http://www.kiwanis.org/pr/psacolor.pdf.

It is also available on the Kiwanis marketing and public relations CD-ROM that features resources such as brochure and newsletter templates, sample press releases, and the public relations handbook. The version on the CD-ROM can be

customized so individual clubs can post their name and contact information on the bottom. Each Kiwanis club can request one CD-ROM free of charge by contacting tleix@kiwanis.org.
