It’s just another day at school. You and your friend are chatting in the classroom. Suddenly, your friend’s nose starts to bleed. What would you do? Would you be scared? Or would you do something to help your friend?

In daily life, we run into emergencies now and then. Nosebleeds are just one kind of emergency. But if you learn some basic first aid skills, you can help people during emergencies and maybe even save their lives.

The second Saturday of September is World First Aid Day, which fell on Sept. 14 in 2019. Right now, it is a good time for us to learn more about first aid.

First aid, as its name tells us, refers to the first steps you can take to care for someone who’s hurt. It includes keeping him safe and staying calm. It also includes getting help, by telling other people or calling 120.

Every year in China, 3.2 million people die in emergencies. That’s six people per minute on average. Doctors say that the first 10 minutes after an accident can make the difference between life and death. This is why it’s important for us to learn first aid.

CPR (心肺复苏术) is one of the most useful first aid skills. It can help people who’ve suffered cardiac arrest (心脏骤停). But if you want to perform CPR, you need to learn how to do it properly. You can take

courses offered by the Red Cross Society or some hospitals. ( )19. The writer introduces the topic by ▲ .

When people handle food properly, the risk of food poisoning is very small.Microorganisms multiply rapidly in dirty places and in warm temperatures. This means that people should never touch food with dirty hands or put food on unwashed surfaces.Food should be kept in a refrigerator to stop microorganisms from growing.Meat needs to be cooked thoroughly to kill any dangerous microorganisms.People should also wash food covered with chemicals before eating it.Finally, people should not eat wild mushrooms or other

foods that grow in the wild. Some of these foods may contain natural materials that are poisonous to humans. In addition, some types of fish can be poisonous.

A friend invited us to help serve dinner at Tent City.A number of tents were set up for the homeless in the area.

I took my two boys with me.They were 9 and 5 at the time. They had a lot of questions because this whole thing challenged their common ideas about how people lived in the world. “Why don't they have homes?”

“Why don't they get food the way we do?”

We talked through the reasons why people end up in this type of situation and the importance of creating a safety net for them.I explained that oftentimes, the only safety net is other people who are willing to share some of their time and resources.

The people we served ranged in age from the young to the elderly. Many of them were missing teeth or had dirty clothes. To my surprise, they were quite thankful that I had brought the boys. Many said how fun it was

to have active,joyful children around.

After dinner,I saw my older son sitting together with several elderly gentlemen who were talking about sports in front of a small television set.He was having a great time sharing and hearing stories.

As some people returned to their tents,I heard him tell them,“Thanks so much for coming to have dinner with us.” I could see through their facial expressions that his simple behavior touched them greatly.I hugged him a little tighter as we left to go home because it touched me too.

It was a great reminder that how treating people with respect,no matter who they are,can lift all of us up. ( )27.Before the dinner, the boys thought that______. A.elderly people should eat at soup kitchens B.a number of poor people lived in tents C.the homeless were not healthy

下面文章中有五处(第31—35题)需要添加小标题。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出符合各段意思的小标题。选项中有一项是多余选项。

How to Get Along with Your Parents

What do you think of your parents? Are they your friends, teachers or just the people who are older than you? As a child, what can you do to get along better with your parents? If you want to make friends with your parents and grow into an adult yourself at the same time, you can try taking the following steps.

31

Your parents won’t always be around, so spend time with them while you are able to. You can find activities to do together. In doing this, you will learn more about each other.

32

In order to understand your parents better, you have to spend time making conversations with them. You can talk about your hobbies, problems, opinions and so on. After that, you can connect with each other on a deeper level.

33

It may seem easy, but it is often harder than you think. When you are talking with your parents, make sure you are listening. This means looking at them when they are talking, and speaking clearly when you are replying.

34

If you want your parents to give you more freedom(自由), you should show them that you’re already a “young adult”. You should learn to control your feelings and show them that you can manage(安排) your time well.

35

Do something nice or helpful for your parents. For example, help them with some home chores, make them gifts or teach them some computer skills. In a word, do what you can to help your parents.

A Listen to them carefully. B Act like an adult. C Enjoy doing activities together. D E F Be helpful at home. Buy gifts for your parents. Talk with your parents. 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分25分)

Attention please! Now I will give you a brief introduction to the Winter Festival. It’s a free event for all people to enjoy, and it is organized by a team of volunteers. The first Winter Festival was introduced the year before last. Sadly, due to a lack of money, no festival was held last year. This year, the government may provide 15,000 dollars to the festival. They also persuaded the businessmen around the town to offer the other 5,000 dollars.

There will be a free art exhibition on Friday 18, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 in December in the Central Park of the town. The opening hours are from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. and there is an opening night only on Friday, from 7:30 p.m.to 10:00 p.m. Different from other exhibitions, this art exhibition is really a special one because the public will have the chance to watch the paintings which are from the town’s school. And all the paintings are created by the students. It is great that the festival is going to host a wonderful sound of music in the Main Exhibition Hall this year. The program aims to show some of the musical talents that we have in town. Everyone watching the performance had better not wear formal clothes, but fancy dress. And in the program, you will hear classical music, pop music, rock music and operas.
