They were young and happy boys and girls, but their lives came to a tragic early end. On Sept. 26, six students died and 31were injured in a stampede(踩踏) at Mingtong Primary School in Kunming, Yunnan.

The accident happened when a two﹣metre long cotton cushion(垫子) for gym class fell over and blocked a stairway hall. Several children were covered by it and their classmates rushed out and stepped on them without realizing.

A stampede is possible anywhere. The larger a crowd, the more likely a stampede becomes. On March 31, the National Day of Education on the Safety of primary and Middle School Students, the Ministry of Education gave out instructions:If students around you begin to push, stand still and try to hold onto something, or stay in a corner until the crowd leaves.
