Little Women is a novel by Louisa May Alcott that tells the story of four sisters in New England, Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy March. The sisters live with their mother and father, who is away serving as a chaplain in the Civil War. Despite the family\"s recent loss of fortune, the sisters struggle to support themselves and keep their household running. As the girls grow older, each faces her own personal demons and moral challenges. Jo, the beloved protagonist, must tame her tomboyish ways and learn to be more ladylike while pursuing her ambition to be a great writer. Meg, the eldest sister, must put aside her love of wealth and finery in order to follow her heart. Beth, the shy sister, must conquer her shyness, while Amy, the youngest sister, must sacrifice her aristocratic pride. The girls are guided in their personal growth by their mother, \"Marmee,\" and by their religious faith.
The family\"s tight bonds are forever changed when Meg falls in love with John Brooke, Laure\"s tutor. Meg and John marry and begin a home of their own, quicklypopulated by twin babies, Daisy and Demy. Another marriage seems imminent when Laure\"s diary is found and reveals her plans for a life separate from her husband. The novel ends with the sisters living happily
together, as they have through much of the past, with the knowledge that they are truly loved and supported by one another.。
