摘要：A process and apparatus are disclosed for the production of a solid metalliccomposition such as ferromagnesium wherein one constituent has a melting point whichis above the boiling point of the second constituent. In accordance with the disclosedprocess, a liquid melt of the first constituent is formed which has an effective depthsufficient to produce a static pressure head in excess of the vapor pressure of the secondconstituent at the temperature of the melt. The second constituent is then melted andmixed with the first constituent to form a liquid mixture wherein at least a portion of thesecond constituent is in solution with the first constituent. The mixture is then solidifiedrapidly to form a solid metallic composition in which a substantial part of the secondconstituent appears as a dispersion of fine particles of the second constituent in a matrixof the first constituent. The apparatus includes a columnar furnace communicating with areaction chamber to provide the requisite pressure within the reaction chamber, an addermechanism to supply the low-boiling point constituent to the pressurized reactionchamber and means to cool and solidify the liquid mixture rapidly so as to form thedesired dispersion of fine particles of the low-boiling point constituent in a matrix of theother constituents.
