Past Middle School English Essay Topics in Liaoning Province Hi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 5th grade student. I really like learning English and I'm excited to go to middle school next year. My older brother is in 8th grade now, and he told me all about the English essay questions they have to write for their exams. Some of the topics seem really hard, but I think writing practice is fun!
Last year, one of the prompts was \"If you could travel back in time, what era would you visit and why?\" My brother said a lot of students wrote about going back to ancient China to see what life was like back then. Others wanted to go to the future to see new inventions and technologies. I think I would go back to the dinosaur age - how cool would it be to see real live dinosaurs?! Another topic was \"Which person from history do you admire the most and why?\" My brother's friend wrote about Albert Einstein because he made amazing discoveries about how the universe works. I would probably pick an explorer like Zheng He or Christopher Columbus since I love learning about their daring voyages.
For the prompt \"What inspirational book or movie would you recommend to others?\Potter series. He said it teaches lessons about friendship, courage and doing what's right. I might write about How to Train Your Dragon because the characters learn that even scary-looking dragons can become loyal friends.
One year, they got the question \"What goal would you like to achieve in the future?\" A lot of students wrote about wanting to become doctors, teachers, scientists or business leaders when they grow up. I'm still not totally sure what I want to be, but maybe an inventor? Coming up with creative new ideas sounds fun.
Another prompt was \"Which modern technology do you think has been most beneficial to society?\" Smartphones, the internet, advances in medicine - there were tons of possibilities for that one. I would probably say something like the personal computer since it lets people work, play games, learn new things, and communicate all from one device. Pretty amazing! The essay \"Describe your favorite teacher and how they inspired you\" let students show appreciation for educators who made a big impact on them. My brother's favorite is his English teacher Ms. Wang because she makes grammar rules easy to
understand through fun examples and activities. I'm lucky all my teachers are great so far!
Some other interesting topics they've had include \"What animal would you like to be and why?\changed your daily life?\environment?\capsule, what would you say to people in the future?\"
No matter what prompt they get, my brother always does a rough draft first where he jots down his main ideas and examples. Then he organizes everything into an outline with an intro, body paragraphs, and conclusion. After getting feedback from his teacher, he revises his work and writes a final draft. Sounds like a lot of steps but it helps make the essays stronger.
I read through some of his old essays and they used great descriptive language, transitional phrases, and even rhetorical devices like metaphors or rhetoricalquestions. You have to follow the structure of an academic essay too, with clear arguments and supporting details. No wonder he spends so many late nights working on them!
Overall, the English essay section seems really challenging but also like great practice for communication skills. You have to organize your thoughts logically, provide examples, engage the
reader's interest, and write with proper grammar and style. Developing those abilities will definitely help prepare us for future careers.
I can't wait until I'm old enough to start getting essay prompts like these! For now, I'll just keep honing my English through reading, writing journals, watching shows, and preparing as best I can. If I work really hard, maybe I'll even get the top score on this part of the test when it's my turn. An English scholar can dream!
