My Favorite Fruit - Watermelon
Hi, my name is Tommy and I am 9 years old. I love all kinds of fruits, but my absolute favorite is watermelon! Watermelon is the best fruit ever. It is so juicy, sweet, and refreshing. I could eat watermelon all day long in the hot summer. Let me tell you all about this amazing fruit that makes me so happy!
Watermelons are really big fruits that have a green rind on the outside and bright red flesh inside with tons of small black seeds. The rind is thick and hard, protecting the soft red fruit inside. When you cut into a watermelon, the juices start dripping out right away. That's my favorite part - all those delicious juices! I always make sure to cut my watermelon slice over a plate so I don't miss a single drop.
The taste of watermelon is like nothing else. It's perfectly sweet but also has a little tartness to it that makes it taste so fresh and delightful. Biting into a crisp, ice cold slice of
watermelon is heaven, especially on a blazing hot day. The juice
dribbles down your chin and it's so wonderfully messy but who cares? Nothing beats that scrumptious watermelon flavor and those juices are the absolute best.
As I'm eating my watermelon, I always like to spit out the seeds and see how far I can make them fly. My friends and I have contests to see who can spit their seeds the farthest! We make a big game of it and the winner gets to take home an extra slice of watermelon from the picnic. Those crisp little black seeds are kind of neat - you can plant them and actually grow your own watermelons if you want! How cool is that?
Watermelons are funny looking fruits too, which makes them even more fun. They are so big and round, with that dark green striped rind. Some watermelons are shaped more oblong, but I like the classic round shape best. My dad says they used to have watermelon seed spitting contests when he was a kid too. Maybe watermelons just naturally make people want to spit seeds and be a little silly!
My friends all know how much I love watermelon. For my 9th birthday last month, my mom made a fantastic watermelon cake! On the outside it looked just like a real watermelon, with the green rind and dark stripes. But when you cut into it, it was a delicious and moist pink watermelon flavored cake. It was so
creative and everyone thought it was awesome. We all devoured that cake so fast!
Besides eating them, watermelons are just fun to play with on hot summer days too. My friends and I like to have
watermelon baseball - using a watermelon as the ball and a bat and trying to hit it across the backyard. We get totally drenched from the watermelon guts but it's a blast. Or sometimes we'll have watermelon bowling, using smaller watermelons as the ball to try and knock down pyramids of bottles or cans. Watermelons make the best summer outdoor games imaginable.
From the very first sweet bite of watermelon in late spring to the watermelon seed spitting contests on the 4th of July to watermelon baseball in August, this fruit makes the entire summer so much more amazing. I'm the self-proclaimed \"King of Watermelon\" amongst my friends. I can down an entire quarter slice in about 30 seconds flat. My mouth is watering just thinking about how mouth-watering delicious watermelon is!
For me, watermelon is summer itself. Summer isn't complete until I've had that first scrumptious, ice cold, dripping with sweetness slice of heavenly watermelon. From then on,
watermelon and its delightful juices are smeared all over my face for the rest of the summer! My goal is to one day enter a
watermelon seed spitting contest as an adult and take home the grand prize. Maybe I'll even learn to grow my own watermelons one day too and have a never-ending supply of my favorite treat. Until then, I'll keep looking forward to watermelon season every year and counting down the days until those first watermelon trucks arrive at the grocery store. As soon as I see those massive green melons in the produce section, I start bugging my mom to buy some. Nothing compares to that first bite into an ice cold, freshly sliced watermelon after a long winter of sad, dull fruits like apples and oranges. That sweet watermelon punch in the mouth is worth the months-long wait every time! So if you're looking for me this summer, I'll be the messy, sticky-faced kid sitting on the porch, watermelon juice dripping down my chin, grinning from ear to ear and absolutely covering in watermelon happiness. It's my favorite day, my favorite treat, and my favorite fruit - watermelon makes my summer complete!

My Favorite Fruit: Watermelon
Hi, my name is Tommy and I'm 8 years old. Today I want to tell you all about my very favorite fruit - watermelon! Watermelon is the best fruit ever in my opinion. It's so sweet,
refreshing, and juicy. Just thinking about biting into a crisp, bright red slice of watermelon on a hot summer day makes me happy.
Watermelons are really big fruits that grow on vines. They have a hard green rind on the outside that is kind of shaped like an oval. But the best part is on the inside - the bright pinkish-red flesh packed full of hundreds of little black seeds and tons of sweet juice. When you slice into a ripe watermelon, the juice starts dripping out right away. That's how you know it's going to be delicious!
My favorite way to eat watermelon is to cut it into triangle slices. I love sinking my teeth into that crispy, watery red flesh and having the juice run down my chin. It's so messy but so yummy! Sometimes the little black seeds get stuck in my teeth, but I don't even mind. My mom always cuts up a whole watermelon into wedges and puts them on a plate for me and my brother. We can never eat it all at once so she keeps the rest in the fridge. Cold watermelon from the fridge is really refreshing on a hot day.
Another way I like to eat watermelon is in a fruit salad. My grandma makes this amazing watermelon fruit salad with cubes of watermelon, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, and a little bit
of mint. It's so sweet and fruity - the watermelon gives it a great crunch and lots of juice. Whenever we go over to grandma's in the summer, we always request her watermelon fruit salad for dessert.
Have you ever tried watermelon juice or watermelon popsicles? Those are delicious too! Mom will blend up some watermelon chunks with a little water and pour the juice over ice. It's so refreshing to drink on a hot day after playing outside. And watermelon popsicles are the best - all the sweet watermelon flavor frozen into an icy cold treat. My friends always want to trade their popsicles for my watermelon ones!
I love watermelon so much that every year for my birthday I ask mom to make me a watermelon cake! It's not actually a cake, but she carves a whole watermelon into the shape of a cake and uses pieces of the green rind as \"leaves\" on top. Then she cuts triangles out of the red watermelon flesh and arranges them into cake slices. It's so creative and fun, and of course delicious too. All my friends think the watermelon cake is so cool.
Some fun facts about watermelons - did you know that watermelons are part of the same family as pumpkins and cucumbers? They're related! Also, watermelons are mostly water - about 92% of a watermelon is just water. That's why they are so
juicy and refreshing. Watermelons actually originated in Africa thousands of years ago before spreading around the world. I could probably eat watermelon every single day all summer long and never get bored of it. It's just such a perfect fruit - sweet, crispy, juicy, and SO refreshing on a hot day. Biting into a nice cold wedge of watermelon is one of my favorite things about summer.
There are so many fun memories I have around watermelon too. Every 4th of July, we have a watermelon seed spitting contest in the backyard to see who can spit the seeds the farthest. Last summer I finally beat my dad! Watermelon is also a big part of our annual family picnic over Labor Day weekend. We eat so much watermelon that we end up having seed spitting contests again. One year my little cousin had watermelon seeds all stuck to his cheeks - it was so funny!
I hope by now you can tell how much I absolutely love watermelon. To me, it's the ultimate summer fruit. There's just nothing else that can quite satisfy my craving for something sweet, juicy and refreshing on a hot day like biting into a thick wedge of crisp, ruby red watermelon. I'll always have so many fun childhood memories associated with watermelon - summer picnics, seed spitting contests, watermelon cakes for my birthday,
and just being a sticky, juice-covered mess while devouring slice after slice. Watermelon will forever be my favorite fruit!

My Favorite Fruit - Strawberries
Hi there! My name is Alex and I'm a third grader at Oakville Elementary School. Today I want to tell you all about my absolute favorite fruit - strawberries!
Strawberries are these cute little red fruits that grow on a plant. The plant has green leaves and all these white flowers. After the flowers bloom, they turn into the yummy red
strawberries! I think strawberries look so pretty growing on the plant.
I remember the first time I ever tried a strawberry. My mom brought home a little green basket from the grocery store filled with fresh, ripe strawberries. I was probably about 4 years old. She washed them and let me try one. I bit into it and tasted the sweetest, most delicious flavor! The juices dribbled down my chin as I gobbled it up. From that day on, I was hooked! Now whenever it's strawberry season, my mom takes me strawberry picking at the local farm. We go early in the morning when it's still a little cool outside. The farm has these huge fields
full of strawberry plants. They give us a big red basket and let us wander through the fields, picking as many strawberries as we want! I love bending down and searching through the green leaves to find those plump, red gems hiding underneath. Sometimes I have to get right down on my belly to reach for the strawberries tucked way in the back! Inevitably, I end up with red juice all over my hands, face, and clothes from snacking while I pick. It's so much fun!
After a couple hours of picking, our basket is completely full all the way to the top. We take our strawberries home and my mom lets me help rinse them off in the sink. Holding them under the water, I examine each berry to make sure there's no dirt or bugs before we eat them. I can already smell that fresh, sweet strawberry aroma filling up the kitchen.
Then it's time for my favorite part - eating the strawberries! First, I love just popping them straight into my mouth and savoring that burst of sweet flavor as I bite down into the juicy red flesh. The natural sugars make my taste buds dance with delight. Sometimes, my mom will slice up the strawberries and sprinkle just a tiny bit of sugar on top of them. The sugar brings out even more of the strawberries' natural sweetness. We'll sit
out on our patio and snack on strawberries while the warm sunshine beams down on us.
Strawberries are also great in all kinds of dishes and desserts. My mom will sometimes make strawberry smoothies by blending the berries with milk, yogurt, and a touch of honey. I love drinking those cool, fruity smoothies through a straw on a hot summer day! Strawberry milkshakes and strawberry ice cream are two more of my favorite strawberry treats.
For a healthy snack, my mom slices up strawberries and serves them over vanilla yogurt with a sprinkle of granola on top. It's so yummy and nutritious! We also love having fresh
strawberries as a topping on pancakes, waffles, and French toast. The sweet berry flavor is absolutely perfect with the warm, maple syrupy breakfast foods.
If I'm really craving something sweet, strawberry shortcake is my number one choice! It's made with these sweet, buttery biscuits that get split in half and stuffed with juicy strawberries and whipped cream. Every bite tastes like a little bit of heaven. It's so rich and indulgent!
Another one of my favorite strawberry desserts is strawberry pie. My grandma makes the most amazing strawberry pie every summer using fresh strawberries from her garden. The filling is
sweet and jammy with just a hint of tartness. It gets piled into a flaky, buttery pie crust and served slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Mmmmm...just thinking about it makes my mouth water!
I could keep going on and on about all the tasty strawberry treats, but I'd be here all day! From jams and jellies, to muffins and cakes, to refreshing lemonades and iced teas, strawberries are the star ingredient that make everything better. They add so much fresh, fruity flavor to both sweet and savory dishes. Not only do strawberries taste phenomenal, but they're really good for you too. My teacher taught us that strawberries are packed with vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants. The vitamin C helps keep our bodies healthy by fighting off sickness. The fiber is important for keeping our digestive systems regular. And the antioxidants protect our cells from damage and disease. Who knew that such a delicious fruit could provide so many health benefits?
So those are just a few reasons why strawberries are by far the greatest fruit in the world! Their bright red color, sweet taste, and nutritional value make them a true superfood. Plus, strawberry season is a sure sign that summer is finally here! To
me, strawberries symbolize warm sunny days, picnics, outdoor adventures, and quality time spent with my family.
I have so many special memories surrounding strawberries - from picking the ripe berries with my mom, to devouring strawberry shortcakes and pies baked with love by my grandma. Whenever I smell that unmistakable strawberry aroma or see their brilliant red color, I instantly feel happy and nostalgic. Strawberries will forever be my favorite fruit!
