摘要：In a procedure for checking the operational capability of an electric circuit,which has a sensor module () comprising an integrated switching circuit and a diagnosismechanism () allocated thereto, wherein the sensor module () has at least one output

terminal () connected to the diagnosis mechanism () and power supply terminals (), anoperating voltage is applied via cables () to the power supply terminals (). The sensormodule () is switched to a test mode, in which a communication test signal () is emittedfrom the output terminal (). This signal is read in by the diagnostic mechanism () andcompared with a tolerance band range, in order to verify that the communication with thesensor module () is operational. In the event of operational communication, theoperational capability of the switching circuit is tested. In the event of a defectiveswitching circuit, an error signal (), and in the event of an operational switching circuit, afunction signal (), respectively, are transmitted via the output terminal () to the diagnosticdevice (). The function signal () is dependent on a voltage residing at the power supplyterminals (). The function signal () received by the diagnostic device () is compared with apredefined tolerance range and an error is confirmed in the cable () on the basis of theresult of this comparison.
