Dear neighbors,
We are writing this letter to you because our school has started a group. It is called “Help the Environment”. It works to look after the environment.
Here are some interesting facts that our group has learnt:
Most things that we throw away can be reused or recycled.
Some European countries, for example, Germany, already recycle half of their waste. 90% of people in our country would like to recycle more. We think that most people would agree with these statements:
We need to recycle our waste, not use up the world’s sources. It is better to recycle waste than to burn it in the earth or the sea.
Our environment group has decided that one of the best things we can do is to collect reusable waste. We will sell this waste to recycle companies and give the money to Friends of the Earth. We would like people living near the school to bring their recyclable waste to the school. But if you are too busy, we will collect it from you once a week.
We hope that you will agree to this. If you do, please sign your names below this letter.
Yours,
John Cooper

Taking away a city's rubbish is a big job. Every day trucks come into a city to collect it. Most rubbish is made up of things we can't eat or use. If we kept these things, we would soon have a mountain of rubbish.
In some cities the rubbish is collected and taken outside of city to a dump (垃圾场). Often the city dump is placed where the ground is low or there is a big hole. The kitchen rubbish is broken into small pieces and sent into the
sewage system (系统). The sewage system takes away the used water from toilets, bathtubs (浴缸) and other places.
To keep mice and flies away, some earth is used to cover the newly dumped rubbish. Later, grass may be planted on the rubbish-filled land. Finally, a house or a school may be built there, and then you'd never know that this had once been an old rubbish dump.
In other cities the rubbish is burnt in special places. The fire burns everything except the metal. Sometimes the metal can be used again in factories where things are made of metal. The food parts of rubbish are put in special piles (堆) and they slowly change into something that looks like black earth. It is rich with the kinds of things that feed plants and help them grow.

These days haze(雾霾)is around us here and there. In fact, everyone has the power to change their living habits to help reduce it. Many local governments call on their people to take action to make the air cleaner.
Transport is one of the biggest contributors(促成物)to haze. When, where, how, why and what you drive all affect
air quality (质量). When one drives to work for one year, he uses as much energy as a bus rider uses in 10 years. So walk or ride your bicycle to work or school whenever possible. If necessary, you can use public transport instead of your car. Each person using public transport for a year instead of a car can save nearly a ton of pollutants, including CO2, from going into the air.
Carpooling (拼车) is another way to reduce carbon emissions (排放). Carpooling is the sharing of car journeys so that more than one person travels in a car. It immediately reduces your car’s emissions by half.
Lots of our energy supply comes from burning coal, another contributor to haze. By cutting down your electricity use, you are cutting down on haze. So you may try to reduce your use of electricity by turning off lights, using your air conditioner wisely during the summer months, or updating (更新) your electrical appliances (电器) to low-energy models. For example, you can use energy-saving lamps that require less energy and last 10 times longer than common bulbs.
61. Who should play an important role in reducing haze?
A. City cleaners. B. Common people. C. Local governments.
62. From Paragraph 2, the writer thinks we should ________. . A. try not to drive so much B. give up driving cars C. improve our cars
63. What is the main cause of haze? A. Transport.
B. Carpooling.
C. Coal.
. We should reduce the use of electricity because ________. . A. coal is now expensive
B. we can save a lot of money C. it’s good for our environment
65.Which can be the best title for the passage? A. What is haze
B. How to reduce haze
(D)
C. When haze happens

The story makes me think of another story. It goes like this: Long ago, there was a man who liked fishing very much, and was lucky to catch lots of fish every day. 68 , so he always shared his fish with his neighbors who did not know how to fish. One day, he thought that it would be great if he taught them how to fish. So he drove his neighbors together and showed them how to fish. 69 .
At present, there are still a lot of poor people throughout the world. But it’s not good if we give only food to them. Instead, we should give them a chance to learn new skills. 70 , and they will learn the ability to make money. People can learn a lot of useful things in the training program and what they learn can help them on the way to find

第二卷 (E)
In the past, man did not have to think about the protection of his environment. Today, things are different. The world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources too quickly, and at the same time we are polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue like this, human life on earth will not survive (生存).
Everyone realizes today that more and more fish are caught because of modern fishing methods. We know that if too many trees are cut down, forests will disappear and nothing will grow on the land. Yet, we continue to use bigger and more powerful machines to cut down more and more trees.
We realize that if rivers are polluted with waste products from factories, we will die. However, in most countries waste products are still put into rivers or into the sea, and there are few laws to stop this.
We know, too, that if the population of the world continues to rise so fast, in a few years, there will not be enough food.
What can we do to solve these problems?
If we eat more vegetables and less meat, we will easily get more food. Land that is used to grow plants can feed five times more people than land where animals are kept. The world population will not rise so quickly if people use
modern methods of birth control. Finally, if we educate people to think about the problems, we shall have a better and cleaner living place in the future.

How to be a greener person
With the rapid development of the society, great changes have taken place in people’s daily life. As a result, the environment is polluted seriously It’s important for us to live a green life to help with the environment. We should walk or ride a bike to school instead of taking a car. Besides, we had better try to use things that can be recycled and say no to the things that can be used only once. Don’t forget to turn off the lights when we leave the rooms. Even a small thing can make a big difference. We should do it now.
