Teaching procedures : Step1. Lead-in
Show a short video about first aid to lead in to the topic of this unit. Brainstorming: What things at home can be dangerous?

Step2. Pre-reading
T: As we all know, hot water is very dangerous. Now let's look at the picture, and answer: What is happening to the little girl? What shall we do in this situation? Suggestions:

Paragraph1: What can skin do for our body? Look at a picture of skin first. Functions of skin:
1.protect you against diseases, poisons and the sun’s harmful rays; 2.keep you warm or cool;
3.prevent you from losing too much water; 4.give you sense of touch.
Paragraph2: How can we get burnt?
hot liquids;steam;fire;radiation;the sun;electricity;chemicals. Paragraph3: How many types of burns are there? What are they? First degree burns;Second degree burns;Third degree burns.
Paragraph4:questions: characteristics of burns
Question1: What color is the burnt area if you get a first degree burn ? Possible answer: Red, but turns white when pressed.
Question2: What's the surface look like if you have a second degree burn ? Possible answer: Watery.
Question3: Why doesn’t a third degree burn hurt? Possible answer: Because nerves are damaged.
