[2021·贵阳市高三适应性考试] The minimalist lifestyle needs to be considered only after we own more than we need. Nowadays, the rapid development of the society has brought a lot of wealth and material possessions, which has become a burden for many people. In addition, the fast-paced life we have today makes us busier than ever. Therefore, I think a minimalist lifestyle is necessary to help people ease their burden and focus on the best part of life.
Although I'm not a strict practitioner of minimalism, I do benefit a lot from a simpler life. When I got employed in 2018, I wasted my salaries on lots of clothes, shoes, cosmetics, books and food to enrich my life. However, piles of things made my room messy and a lot of stuff things had to be thrown away unused.
About one year ago, I laid__my__hands__on a book named Danshari, which encourages people to cut out or throw away unnecessary things. Following the instructions, I started to change my lifestyle and surprisingly found out that my life was much better with less.
Another bad habit I have worked hard to change is spending too much time on my phone and iPad as a means to free myself from the work stress. A lot of my valuable time was wasted on various time-killing apps which didn't do much good to my self-improvement.
Adopting a simple life can be a bit challenging and needs constant effort. Here are some tips I find helpful. First, concentrate on things that are really important and meaningful. Second, access to information should be simple and well-targeted; reading books is a good alternative to meaningless social interaction and time-killing apps. Third, purchase fewer goods with better quality and tidy up your room regularly.
A minimalist lifestyle isn't equal to austerity (苦行). It's a habit we can form to simplify our life. With less desire both materially and mentally, there will be more room for self-improvement, happiness and inner fulfillment.
1.What does the underlined part mean in Paragraph 3?

[2021·济南市高三模拟]Not so long ago therapy(心理治疗) was limited to an hour-long advising session on a sofa; now you can access free advice on TikTok in under a minute. Perhaps this new trend is growing because it offers easy bite-size answers to big complex questions.
The problem with TikTok, however, is that the videos have to be under 60 seconds, which are about serious mental health illnesses being reduced to brief sentences with quick fixes from sometimes unqualified non-professionals. And with the average age of TikTok users between 18 and 24, how helpful is TikTok therapy?
“When I first started creating mental health content, I didn't expect anyone to listen,” explains Julie Smith, who runs a private practice in Hampshire. “But it turns out people are hungry for this sort of information.”Although there is a concern about the videos' increasing the risk of self-diagnosis(自诊), Smith thinks otherwise. She compares self-diagnosing a
mental health problem to self-diagnosing a common cold, “If you want to find out about the symptoms of a cold, you can look it up online. That's not a risk because you can't do much with that information until you get to the doctor anyway.”
Yet despite concerns, the comments on TikTok therapy videos are filled with praises. Rachel, 23, says she finds them very relatable:“If you see a video discussing anxiety, it can help you acknowledge and discuss topics you might not feel safe to do in other places. It makes me feel less alone.”
We've seen some great mental health content on TikTok. However, it is important to remember that not all the information you find online will be reliable and it can be useful to ask yourself some questions including who is sharing it and why.
4.Why is TikTok therapy getting popular?
A.It sells at a low price.
B.It aims at younger users.
C.It provides brief solutions.
D.It is offered by professionals.
5.What does Smith think of TikTok therapy videos?
A.They may cause some potential risks.
B.Watching these videos is better than going to doctors.
C.They are of much help to people in need.
D.They show symptoms of disease in detail.
6.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 4 probably refer to?
A.Concerns. B.Videos.
C.Comments. D.Praises.
7.What may the author agree?
A.TikTok will replace hospitals in the future.
B.It is quite easy to find reliable medical advice.
C.Everyone can create his own TikTok videos.
D.We should be careful about online information.

[2021·昆明市“三诊一模”]Sugar has been linked to serious diseases like heart disease, diabetes and even cancer, which is why it's vital to cut down on foods and drinks that are high in sugar. Take a look at the drinks that contain a surprising amount of hidden sugars and what you should be eating instead.
Fruit juices
While fruit juices can contain some important vitamins and minerals, they are typically full of sugar. Unfortunately, the fiber that fruit naturally contains and that helps the body keep blood sugar stable has also been removed. To keep blood sugar levels from rising sharply, choose to eat whole fruits whenever a juice desire comes along.
Sports drinks
Sports drinks might seem like the perfect choice for hydration while exercising, but they contain a high amount of added sugars as they were designed for athletes during fierce and long periods of activity. The only people who actually benefit from sports drinks are professional athletes or marathoners. Unless that's you, just stick to plain water.
Flavored coffees
Flavored coffees are delicious, but they contain hidden sugars as they often rely on artificial syrups(糖浆) for flavoring. A large flavored coffee at some coffee chains has up to 25 teaspoons of sugar. You can still enjoy your morning cup of coffee. Just stick to unflavored and unsweetened versions and avoid creamers high in sugar.
Iced teas
Iced teas can be extremely refreshing on a hot day, but they're typically over-sweetened with sugar or syrups. Some brands of iced teas actually contain a surprising 33 grams of sugar in a 355-milliliter serving. So, look for iced teas without any added sugar or make your own at home so you can save money and control what goes into it.
1.How do fruit juices benefit people?
A.They provide necessary minerals.
B.They refuel people during sports.
C.They energize people in the morning.
D.They refresh people on hot days.
2.What are common people advised to have while exercising?
A.Fruit juices. B.Flavored coffees.
C.Natural water. D.Iced teas.
3.What's the purpose of the text?
A.To introduce four nutritious drinks.
B.To discuss the advantages of drinks.
C.To share ways to make drinks at home.
D.To warn readers against high-sugar drinks.

[2021·长春市高三质量预测]It's hard to turn down hamburgers, French fries, potato chips and all of the other junk food that seem to call out to us. However, eating too much junk food can harm your body, particularly if you're between the ages of 10 and 19.
“Junk food shapes adolescent brains in ways that weaken their ability to think, learn and remember. It can also make it harder to control impulsive behaviors,” said Amy Reichelt, a brain and nutrition specialist at Western University, Canada. “It may even up a teen's risk of depression and anxiety.”
Reichelt and two other researchers found adolescents are more sensitive than any other
age group to processed foods with a lot of fat and sugar. Adolescent brains are still developing the ability to assess risks and control actions. The prefrontal cortex(前额皮质) is the part of the brain that tells us we shouldn't eat chips all the time and helps us resist that urge. But this region is the last to mature — it doesn't fully develop until we are in our early 20s. Meanwhile, teen brains get more active from rewards for a while. The parts of the brain that make us feel good when we do something pleasurable are fully developed by the teen years.
In fact, these regions are even more sensitive when we are young. That's because dopamine (多巴胺), a natural chemical that lifts our mood when we experience something good, is especially active in adolescent brains. Therefore, the teen brain has two strikes against it when it comes to resisting junk food. “It has a heightened drive for rewards and reduced self-regulation,” said Reichelt.
So, what's the best way to say no to junk food? Researchers suggest exercise. When we exercise, the brain's reward system becomes less sensitive to food. Exercise also cause the body to make a protein that helps brain cells grow and boosts connections between the prefrontal cortex and other brain regions. The prefrontal cortex thus can work better to help us make wise decisions and control our impulses.
4.What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A.The effects of eating junk food.
B.The causes of favouring junk food.
C.The tendency of sharing junk food.
D.The benefits of avoiding junk food.
5.What is the function of the prefrontal cortex?
A.It serves as the sense of taste.
B.It promotes teenagers' spirits.
C.It is partly in charge of self-control.
D.It helps teenagers grow physically mature.
6.What does “it” refer to in the third paragraph?
A.The prefrontal cortex.
B.The urge.
C.The adolescent brain.
D.The body.
7.Why it is hard for teens to give up junk food?
A.Junk food is delicious and nutritious.
B.Junk food is popular among young people.
C.Teenagers don't realize the harm of junk food.
D.Teenagers can feel temporary excitement from junk food.

[2021·济南市高三学情诊断考试]We already know that eating too much salt can lead to heart disease. But could it also affect our mind? Scientists found that a high-salt diet could cause cognitive impairments (认知损伤) in mice, and it could produce the same effect on humans.
Dr Costantino Iadecola, director of the Feil Family Brain and Mind Research Institute, said they fed the mice eight to sixteen times their normal salt intake and then tested the mice. After about three months, the mice had a big change in their behaviour. Mice are very curious, and they like to look for new things. However, the tested mice lost the ability to identify a normal object. When the mice were put in their cage and asked to find a quiet spot, they did not remember where the quiet spot was. Then when the mice were building a nest, which is something the mice do daily, they were unable to do so. The research suggested humans would experience a similar response.
Studies have shown Australians eat around double the recommended amount of salt each
day, most of it coming from processed food. Dr Iadecola said the estimated two teaspoons of salt the average Australian eats each day could affect the brain function in the long term. However, the decline might not be as obvious as in the mice, who were given extremely high levels of salt. “But probably over years and perhaps decades — as opposed to a few months for the mice — even lower levels of salt may have a terrible effect,” Dr Iadecola said.
“High levels of salt cause serious immune (免疫的) changes in the organs in and around the stomach, resulting in an almost autoimmune effect on the brain. It is part of a growing body of evidence that we really are what we eat,” Bryce Vissel, director of the Centre for Neuroscience at the University of Technology Sydney, said. “Those changes in turn cause all sorts of responses in the body, which over time certainly contribute to cognitive impairments.”
8.Which can describe the tested mice?
A.They remained quiet all day.
B.They became smarter than ever.
C.They forgot some routine things.
D.They were quick at finding objects.
9.What do we know about Australians?
A.They ignore health advice.
B.They have a higher-salt diet.
C.They dislike processed food.
D.They value their brain health.
10.What does the last paragraph mainly focus on?
A.Studies carried out by Bryce Vissel.
B.Immune changes brought about by salt.
C.Effects of daily diets on human behaviour.
D.Links between salt intake and brain damage.
11.What does the text suggest?
A.Brain health counts much.
B.The body never tells a lie.
C.A low-salt diet is to be advocated.
D.Heart disease can be prevented.

[2021·南京市、盐城市高三二模]When I was six, my elder brother brought me to the local BMX(自行车越野) track to ride in a kids' race for the first time. The hill out of the starting gate looked so scary and steep that I backed off. My parents took me back for another try the next week. I fell almost immediately but still managed to win second place. I've loved racing ever since.
I turned pro at 15, which isn't possible now: You have to be 17 to compete professionally. Around the time I went pro, BMX became an Olympic sport and I decided to pursue it after high school. I'm the youngest woman with a professional title in the United States.
BMX isn't judged on tricks or how you handle barriers, but it's an extreme sport. It's like horse racing mixed with riding a roller coaster. It starts with a huge burst of speed — I go 40 mph by the time I'm two and a half seconds out of the gate. Then I try to come out in front of seven competitors at the end of the track, which includes 40-foot jumps. I keep chasing the high that comes from prestart nervousness, big jumps, and the feeling of crossing the finish line first.
Strength and balance are key in competition, so I work out at least five days a week to prepare. I do tons of resistance and agility (灵活) training, both on and off the bike. I also do
mental drills with a sports psychologist to make sure I'm focused and confident going into competition. If I make a mistake on the course, I have to move on. Everyone is out to beat me; I need to concentrate on winning so my competitors can't capitalize__on an error and pass me!
I was so proud to win a silver medal at the Olympics in Rio, but I felt I was capable of gold, so that will push me to do better. I'm continually working to reach my potential in the sport. Until I feel completely satisfied, I'll keep coming back.
1.What do we know about the author?
A.She withdrew from her first BMX race.
B.She became the youngest BMX rider in America.
C.Her parents forced her to turn BMX professional.
D.Her efforts resulted in BMX entering the Olympics.

[2021·贵阳市高三检测]There are many ways to travel within a city. We can walk, cycle or take a bus. But no matter which way we travel, we have to follow the route the city planners made for us.
Parkour(跑酷) practitioners, however, see the city in a completely different way. To them, there are no fixed routes. There are no walls and no stairs — since they jump, climb,
roll and crawl to move across, through, over and under anything that they find in their path. The city is their playground.
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has noticed that this activity is attracting more and more people to it — there are 100,000 people taking part in parkour today in the UK alone, according to The Guardian — and how it is helpful for people to be much stronger: It trains coordination (协调) and balance. So, the organization is thinking about recognizing parkour as a new sport and adding it to the 2024 Olympics.
However, parkour practitioners themselves don't seem to be happy with the idea. They see parkour as “a lifestyle”, wrote the website Next Sport Star. “It's a competition against the conditions rather than just a sport.”
Indeed, many do parkour just to “escape the daily routine and experience the city in different ways”, wrote reporter Oli Mould on The Conversation. They see parkour as a way to express themselves through relaxing moves and creative routes while freeing themselves from the pressure.
It's great that the FIG wants to develop a new sport and stay close to a new cultural form. But it would be greater if they knew that not everything in life is a competition.
5.How do the parkour practitioners travel within the city?
A.By following fixed routes.
B.By cycling.
C.By using their own ways.
D.By taking a bus.
6.What does FIG think of parkour?
A.It is a dangerous sport.
B.It should be an Olympic sport.
C.It is becoming a normal sport.
D.It can become a healthy sport.
7.What can we learn from the fourth paragraph?
A.Parkour is a lifestyle in the practitioners' eyes.
B.Parkour is a daily routine for the reporter.
C.Parkour is already an Olympic sport.
D.Parkour should follow the designed ways.
8.What is the writer's attitude toward parkour?
A.Negative. B.Unconcerned.

[2021·洛阳市高三统一考试]Have you ever loved a destination but couldn't figure out why — or even a way — to express your feelings? That's my dilemma with Morocco.
In August, I traveled in a country that had long been on my wish list. I rode a camel, got lost in Medina, and ate a lot of couscous (蒸粗麦粉).
I loved the trip. Our friendly guide introduced us to the helpful locals. I made friends with my tour mates and my roommate (which, on a tour, is a huge blessing). I loved being lost in the smell of different spices, and the chaos of millions of people and the dark red of the Sahara were all I wanted them to be.
There were many moments when I felt like a fish out of water and things didn't go my way.
But I take pleasure in those moments because it's when you are pushed out of your comfort zone that you grow. Morocco lived up to all my expectations, but for some reason, my experience has been hard to express. Why?
One constant in my travels is that of a touchstone, one defining point where the trip all comes together and acts as a prism (三棱镜) for everything the journey represented. In Costa Rica, it was getting lost in a jungle. In Thailand, it was meeting those five people who changed my life.
I'm so inconsistent about Morocco because I lack that touchstone. There's no big “whoa” moment. But I have thousands of little ones — staring at a million stars in the blackness of the desert, discovering new foods with some amazing Australians on my tour, and befriending the fish sellers.
1.What does the author regard as a huge blessing?
A.Going on a guided trip.
B.Having a helpful guide.
C.Being warmly received by the local people.
D.Getting along well with the fellow travelers.
2.What's the purpose of the fifth paragraph?
A.To prove Morocco lacks the touchstone.
B.To show his reliance on the touchstone.
C.To compare Morocco with Costa Rica and Thailand.
D.To share his experience in Costa Rica and Thailand.
3.What made the author think the journey amazing?
A.Lack of big moments.
B.The little “whoa” moments.
C.Meeting with five Thai people.
D.Making friends with Australians.
4.What does the author mainly talk about?
A.Unpleasant travel in Morocco.
B.Finding a touchstone on travel.
C.Reflection on traveling in Morocco.
D.Lack of special moments in Morocco.

[2021·郑州市第二次质量检测]The icy beauty of the Arctic attracts thousands of visitors every year to see its wonderful wildlife, landscape and local cultures. Visitors can take ships on a voyage along the Arctic Ocean or take flights to cities along the Arctic edge. No matter how one gets there, they should wear warm clothes and get ready to take in the attractions.
“Traveling to the Arctic leaves an unforgettable impression on the visitor. Its vast expanse and the fragility of its environment are two things that really blow__away people,” said Cheryl Rosa, the director of the US Arctic Research Commission.
Visitors to the Arctic Circle will have a lot of activities to choose from if they want to see all that the region has to offer. Hiking with snowshoes, dog sledding and kayaking are common activities. Visitors with sharp eyes are likely to spot polar bears. To get even closer to the animals of the sea, visitors can go polar snorkeling with seals. Of course, Arctic adventures aren't complete without viewing the wonders of the Arctic Circle's large glaciers and icebergs as well.
One of the most impressive attractions and maybe the most difficult to see is the Northern Lights, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. They are natural lights that glow a brilliant green and light up the horizon. Sometimes they appear as waves that dance across the sky in different colors.
The best places to view the Northern Lights are in Northern Norway, Sweden's Abisko National Park, Iceland, America's Alaska or Canada's Yukon, according to Space. com. Charles Deehr, an expert at the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Geophysical Institute, recommended planning a trip between winter and spring, especially when there is a new moon.
Even though the Arctic is a popular tourist destination, don't forget that people live here too. “It is recommended that visitors go with tour groups that are respectful of Arctic residents (居民) and their culture,” said Rosa. “Too many people can disturb the small villages. Finding tour groups that work with local communities is important.”
5.The underlined part “blow away” in Paragraph 2 probably means “________”.
A.defeat B.affect
C.move D.impress
6.What can we know about the Northern Lights?
A.They only produce green light at night.
B.They are natural lights and hard to see.
C.They seldom occur between winter and spring.
D.The best time to view them is when there is a full moon.
7.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Tour groups are not welcome among Arctic residents.
B.The Arctic's population has been rising in recent years.
C.Visitors should choose suitable tour groups when visiting the Arctic.
D.Tour groups should get permission from local communities.
8.What is the purpose of the author in writing this passage?
A.To inform visitors of local culture.
B.To recommend some activities to visitors.
C.To introduce a popular tourist destination.
D.To share a travel experience in the Arctic.

[2021·昆明“三诊一模”]I'd never heard of the yangqin — an 18th century Chinese stringed instrument — until this past Sunday, when I had the pleasure of hearing Eastman graduate and music performer Zhang Wenzhuo perform on it in a virtual concert.
Wenzhuo, a Chinese native, began her training on the yangqin at age five. When she was only 13, Wenzhuo was awarded a scholarship to the Arts School of Hebei Province; the highly competitive program only accepted a single yangqin student every two years. After graduation, she placed first in nationwide competitions and was admitted into the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts in Beijing, where she was awarded her bachelor's in yangqin performance in 2005. She obtained her doctorate from Boston University in music education in 2015 and studied ethnomusicology at Eastman from 2017 to 2019. Wenzhuo has performed with countless orchestras and groups of musicians and won countless awards for her performances.
Before Wenzhuo performed on her yangqin, she presented a brief historical background of the instrument's origin, and discussed its continued usage up to the present day. Determined by musicologists to be based on the similarly-structured English hammered dulcimer(大扬琴), the yangqin was first used in Chinese folk music performance and operas. As time went on, performances began to be sponsored by the country, and yangqin performers were given a path to higher levels of social mobility.
Wenzhuo performed four pieces, three tracing their origins to centuries' old Chinese composers, and one from the modern era. Needless to say, Wenzhuo's performances sounded fantastic. The yangqin is a unique and beautiful instrument and its sound, coupled with Wenzhuo's musical ability, allowed the four greatly differing pieces to stand together as a wonderful introduction to the instrument.
It was fascinating to learn about the yangqin and a joy to watch Wenzhuo perform on it.

Reading poetry can be challenging, but learning how to carefully move through a poem is also very rewarding. __1__But, by following the tips below, anyone can have the deeply rewarding experience of being connected with a great poem.
Sound abounds (有许多). Poetry is made to be heard. You're probably familiar with rhyming poems: roses are red, violets are blue... but there are many sound elements that
poets use not only to make the poem sound beautiful, but to enhance the meaning or intention of a poem. __2__ What do you notice about how it sounds? How does the sound enhance an overall theme, mood, or message?
__3__Many poems may use words or some things in history that may be unfamiliar to you. Be curious enough to look up all the things that you're unfamiliar with. You should also gather information about the poets, what was happening in their lives, and what was going on in the world around them. All of these can offer essential context to bring the poems to life.
Analyze the figurative (比喻的) language in the poem. Figurative language could be words that are repeated often in the poem or words that rhyme in each stanza(节). To get more into the figurative meaning of the poem, you should look at how the poet uses literary devices like metaphor, simile, and imagery. __4__
Finally, you don't have to understand it to engage with it and enjoy it. If you like the way a poem sounds when you read it aloud, but don't know what it “means”, that's OK! __5__ The great thing about art is that it can have lots of different meanings or seemingly no meaning at all and can still be enjoyed. The same goes for poetry.

B.Look up the words you do not understand.
C.They are often used to add deeper meaning to the poem.
D.Maybe it makes sense in a way that you can't necessarily express.
E.Once you find a poem that interests you, read it out loud several times.
F.You should also pay attention to how the poet opens and closes the poem.
G.Unlike painting and music, poetry requires a little extra effort to harvest its full effects.
