The next morning I went down to the 40 at about 5 A. M., and four hours later I 41 the call to come down to West Street. I
called my wife and told her not to 42 me, and that I would stay in 43 with her. I took the subway. It stopped at West Fourth Street, so I had to 44 the rest of the way.
And somewhere in there I became 45 that I was going into something I 46 . I once worked there in 1966 for the 47 of the World Trade Centre. On halfway on September 12, I was frightened to see the World Trade Centre was a huge pile, maybe ten 48 tall. And it was burning. I started to ask 49 in which my crane might be 50 a whistle blew suddenly warning us of some danger. I saw people running away and I really didn’t know what to do. So I did the same, too. It was as if they had 51 the bulls go in Spain and we were running through the street. People falling down, people 52 them up as they came by, and carrying them, just to get them out of the way, because something was extremely 53 . I didn’t even look back. We stopped running when we got to the Battery Tunnel, and I caught my 54 and said, “Oh, my God, I’m going to 55 .”
Then I settled down a little bit, thinking about what we should do next. As we started again we knocked into a fire chief officer and we asked, “What can we do to help you?”

Nearly two decades has passed , I still remember my favourite professor, James Sehwartz. Whenever he smiles ,it’s as if you’d just been told the funniest joke on earth .Almost all his students are his friends, and almost all his students know his life story.[来源:Z#xx#k.Com] When James was a teenager ,his father 36 him to a fur factory where he worked . This was during the Great Depression. The 37 was to get James a job. He entered the factory ,and immediately felt as if the 38 had closed in around him. The room was dark and hot , the windows covered with dust, and the 39 were packed tightly together ,running like trains. The fur hairs were flying , 40 a thickened air ,and the workers,
41 the pieces of fur together , were bent over their needles 42 the boss marched up and down the rows ,searching for them to go faster .James could hardly 43 . He stood next to his father ,frozen with fear ,hoping the boss wouldn’t 44 at him , too. During lunch break ,his father took James to the boss and pushed him in front of him, 45 if there was any work for his son. But 46 there was barely enough 47 for the adult labours ,for no one would give it up once he takes a job. Thus , for James, it was a 48 . He hated the place. He made a 49 that he kept to the end of his like: he would never do any work that brought 50 to someone else ,and he would never allow himself to 51 money off the seat of others. “What will you do?” his mother , Eva , would ask him. “I don’t know,” he 52 say. He ruled out law ,because he didn’t like 53 , and he ruled out medicine , because he couldn’t take the 54 of blood. “What will you do?”
55 , my best professor I ever had became he thought it was the job not to hurt anybody.

Wings of Angel
I used to hate myself because I wasn’t “normal”. Everyone else could play on the monkey bars and ride on a bicycle, but not 36 . I had a severe spinal cord disorder(脊髓病) and I knew I would always be much 37 than others. I hated going to school and I hated 38 at me. I hated seeing others smiling broadly and standing 39 and tall. And most of all, I hated looking in the 40 and seeing an ugly and hunchback(驼背).
My friends found me 41 because I didn’t let other get close to me. I thought I was going to go on like this for the rest of my life 42 Angela appeared. That afternoon, I was sitting by myself in a corner of the school—a spot where no one would 43 me. That’s when I first heard your voice.
“Hi. Can I sit down?”
I raised my head and there she was, with an irresistible smile on her round face. “What are you looking at?” you asked. “Ants.”
“What are they doing?” “No 44 .”
“I bet they’re playing games and make friends. Don’t you think so?”
That was how our 45 started and it didn’t stop. We talked about everything under the sun—the ants, the clouds, my little niche(处境)—until it was sunset.
Then suddenly, you saw my 46 . She just stared. My heart 47 . What I feared most had happened and I knew for sure she would 48 me now.
She stood up, pointed at my back and said, “I know why your back is hunched.”
I closed my eyes like a criminal waiting to be 50 . I begged in my heart for her to 51 , but you just kept on going. “I know what you’ve got in there. Do you?”
“No,” I answered 52 .
She bent and whispered in my ears.
“Your back is bunched because you’ve got a pair of wings from the angels.”
I was 53 . I looked into your eyes and her 54 touched my heart. From that day on, I started to learn to 55 myself because I have the wings of an angel and a kind – hearted friend.
